I really love this idea, the combination of the personal story from the patron and the fun of checking out the books was great. (I love fictional fiction!) I would definitely enjoy playing a longer version of this with a richer catalog and more patrons to hear from.
Apparently I only got the okay ending since it was 1 paragraph, so I'm missing something... I need a hint system! 🙂
Haha! Need 3 books, and there's 3 endings... hmm. I think I got the best ending, and there's the Okay ending, and then there's probably Utter Recommend Failure ending!
Yay, thank you! I'd actually tried a lot of codes like that, but I think the extra complication of American / European date formats meant I'd missed that exact one. Still, now that I can play the game it's really fun!
Very short, obviously, but lots of potential. It reminds me of Strange Horticulture, if you know it.
Ah--somehow I parsed "November 15" as today's date (which is a thing a lot of computers-within-computer-games do), and didn't particularly parse the birthday hat as "today is my birthday". (It's an old decoration? They came from the break room where there was cake for a coworker's birthday? Anyway.)
OK, now that I've gotten into the computer, I can see how this has plenty of potential. Don't let game jam time limits keep you from seeing where you can take this!

Yes, I would love to go back and add more. I consider the "okay" ending to be a good ending anyways! Going above and beyond is just a bonus.
But for a small hint:
The key is to figure out the real desire behind wanting the books. And there's no singular way to getting the bonus ending.
I spent more time on figuring out the pin code than on the actual gameplay lmao.
lmao Sorry about that :') I definitely underestimated the pin difficulty. Will probably add more hinting around that in the future.

Haha, yeah basically. The "best" ending has 2 paragraphs, while the "good" one has 1 paragraph.
Would be nice if it were easy to reset the game, lol the bad ending is hilarious after getting the Best ending!
Nevermind, I just got the okay ending. So if even one book is bad, you get the bad ending! heh.
I wish some of these books were real! Weird how Romance isn't a phrase that gets anything!
And finally got the good ending with a lucky thought! Thoughtful indeed!
Yes, the "bad" ending is pretty basic. In a future version, I'd like to adjust it to be a bit more lenient the more "correct" books you add in.
And I was in such a rush to finish that I forgot the Romance book! Very sad. I will definitely add many more books in the future.
this is super cute!! I hope you continue to work on this :))
Thank you! I would like to come back to it eventually =)
Am I being particularly dense? I can't figure out what the PIN is supposed to be; the screen is the only thing I've found that I can interact with.
Neither...
It's their birthday today, and we know the date. Surely it's some form of the date? But none seem to work.
Yes, you're on the right track. I've updated the pin hint, so it should be easier to figure out now.

Thanks! And yes, I did play Strange Horticulture somewhat recently, so it might've been in my subconscious haha

Sorry, the PIN ended up being unnecessarily difficult. I've updated the game with a new hint that should make it easier.

Thank you! I'll definitely continue it eventually =)
